The name "He Deng" is derived from the ancient history of china. People of that period take FIRE as the cradle of everything on earth. It is taken as the symbol of auspiciousness and warmth, manito to overcome chilliness and starvation. The fisherman start to use the paper-made boats with candles to prey for the safty when they are on the sea. It is named "Color Boat Lanterns" that time. It has another name later: "Water Lanterns", still some of the other may call it "River Lanterns" as well.

This tradition has been maintained and continued. People used to light it in the Mid-Autumn Day, or 15th of July the Fete-Day. It is widely adopted as a memorial presents for the dead, and even a good wish for the living. Still some of the others may take it as a way to clear away pain and sorrow, a way to convey and indicate their love.

Step 1: Write your wishes on the Water Lantern leaves or pedestal with the pen enclosed.
Step 2: Erect the leaves in arc to form the lotus shape.
Step 3: Pull down one piece of the inner layered leaf to better light the lantern. Erect it again after lighting.
Step 4: Lightly put the lantern onto the water and let it float.
Step 5: Stare at the lantern and make a wish.
Memo: The lanterns are made of dissolvable paper, please feel free to use it.
