Solar grasshopper

Product Detailed Description

A small grasshopper waits on a windowsill, and when daylight reaches its tiny panel the whole body starts to quiver, as if it were about to pounce. Shine a light on it and the effect repeats, no switch and no battery to swap.

How it works

A solar power cell feeds a micro vibration motor directly, so light in becomes motion out. The figure shakes all over rather than moving in one fixed direction, which makes the action read clearly from a short distance on a desk or shelf.

Teaching and display

• Demonstrates the solar concept to students
• Saves energy, with no battery inside
• Novel, unusual shape that draws attention
• Suits desk companions and stocking fillers

Novelty value and a simple mechanism make the piece easy to merchandise in museum shops, classroom sets and seasonal promotions. Buyers usually check that the panel is firmly mounted, that the motor starts under ordinary indoor light, and that packaging survives transit before ordering in volume.
