Build and detection

The heart of the unit is a conventional photoelectric chamber, which reads scattered light from smoldering fires and slow, smoky starts rather than open flame. The housing is molded plastic in white or off-white, with a test button, a status lamp and a mounting bracket for ceilings or walls. Installation is a screwdriver job: fix the bracket, twist the alarm into place, press the test button and listen for the horn.
